Artist in Residence

In November 2026 we will be opening the Nearside Artist in Residence program.

The purpose of the residency is to provide a space for artistic creation and material exploration for blacksmiths and metal artists.

Applicants will be selected by the Nearside Arts Committee and acceptance will be based on the scope of work proposed, and determining factors of how it fits within the mandate, values and workflow of our studio and organization.

Each Artist in Residence is requested to participate in a public artist talk and presentation of their work, process and explorations done during their time working at the Nearside Studio.

The cost to Artists is $2000 per month, and must be paid in full before the first of the month in which the Artist will be in the Studio.

Applications Open: Sept 1st 2026

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

The duration of the Nearside Arts Artist Residency is one month long at minimum, longer proposals will be subject to consideration of the selection committee.

The program offers 4 days per week of full studio access to work in the shop alongside our members, teaching faculty and regular class schedules.

Full access to attend all of the workshops, events and classes throughout the duration of the residence at no additional cost above the residence fee (Course specific material fees may be applied).
